Sassicaia, produced by Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri, Italy, is a pioneering Super Tuscan wine. The 2011 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are situated on varied soils rich in limestone, marl, and clay, at altitudes between 80 and 400 meters above sea level. The 2011 growing season was characterized by a hot climate, but the vineyards of Sassicaia remained fresh and relatively unaffected. The wine was aged in French oak barriques for about 24 months, followed by a period of refinement in bottle before release.
